Hi, thanks for linking to my blog. I don't think de Artsen sound like the Velvet Underground either. What I was trying to get at was that to my ears they sounded somewhat like other indie-rock acts of the time that were influenced by the Velvet Underground (perhaps there is some resemblance to the Feelies for instance), but filtered through their own Dutch sensibility. Of course, perhaps I am entirely off base in that observation as well.

Nice blog you have here--it's good to see that other remember this band. I also discovered de Artsen while in college in PA.

  • If Ayn Rand and Walter Benjamin got in a cage fight and then made up over foie gras, single malt scotch and indie pop, you'd have the delightful adventures of "That Was Probably Awkward." Plus or minus the single malt and foie gras, depending on the week's finances. But always the indie pop. Sad, stirring indie pop. And a decent happy hour.
